Training Your Dog Tips
by
Bennett Ichikawa
It can be frustrating to train a dog, particularly if you are new to the experience. But, if you apply the tips in this piece, you can learn to build a strong relationship with your dog and get a better understanding of his needs.
A well trained dog should never be walked on a tight leash. A tight leash can cause your dog to pull. This is not something you want when you are walking your dog. Make sure that the leash is comfortably slack when walking your dog.
Never raise your voice to your dog during training. Shouting in response to barking can actually reinforce the barking, as the dog may see you as taking part in the fun noise-making. If your dog is barking and you are yelling, the dog will think that you are in agreement with him as to the need to bark at whatever perceived threat is looming.
Think of a word you can use as a command during training. \”Yes\” works very well when said the same way time and time again.
As you train your dog, have an eye on other dogs when walking yours. You need to be well aware of any dogs that seem aggressive. Try to keep your dog distant from any dogs that seem aggressive or antisocial.
Make it clear to your dog that their crate is their home. Feed them in their crate and keep it open for them to come in and out. They\’ll build a positive view of the crate this way.
Your dog needs to eat a healthy diet. Like kids, dogs can get really hyperactive and unable to focus when their nutrition is not up to spec. Consider changing your dog\’s diet to something more species-appropriate, and he\’ll have long-lasting, consistent energy all day. Talk to your vet about your dog\’s diet and ask for recommendations if you are not sure what kind of dog food you should buy.
Your dog must continually practice good behavior. It is unreasonable to expect perfect training success immediately. Anything worth it\’s salt takes practice and time. Puppy training is no exception.
Use control to acknowledge positive behavior while training. When your dog obeys your command, try to keep them calm as you give them their reward. Although you may feel very pleased, control your response to avoid having your training situation become uncontrolled. Stay calm, have them be calm, and reward them for appropriate behavior.
Don\’t subject your dog to lengthy training sessions. Training sessions should be no longer than fifteen minutes at a time to help ensure success. After training make sure to play with your pet and show him a lot of praise.
As previously stated, the idea of having good dog is not farfetched. In order to achieve this, you must give your dog love and train it correctly. Abide by the advice above and you are on your way to owning a happy pet.
